Back from Haiti. What an experience. I haven’t fully digested all of it emotionally, a majority of what Kaleb and I saw this week was through the viewfinders of our cameras and alot of the time that acts as a shield as you are preoccuppied with the gear, the settings, the scene, the light, etc.
There was one moment, midweek at the end of a very long day where we met with three Haitian men who work within the Compassion projects. Two of these men were sponsored children at one time, thus giving them a chance to get an education and to survive. Now, instead of leaving the country for the U.S. or elsewhere, they are staying in Haiti to give back. My camera was full up with footage and my battery was dead, I wanted so badly to capture their words but this moment was for me to listen. As these men told their stories I imagined how amazing it would be to have sponsored them and given them that chance. Then I thought, how even more amazing it would be to have Conner and Maylee, my kids, each sponsor a kid their age now, to correspond with them and then to one day meet each other.
Lots of good things are happening there through the efforts of Compassion International and the people who sponsor children. Kaleb and I were teamed up with an amazing group of people; musicians, artists and Compassion leaders and we’ve walked away with some great new friends.
Thanks to all of you that sent emails, messages and tweets with prayers and comments.
